Michaelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel has often inspired replication on a smaller level from visitors returning to homes all around the world. If Michaelangelo could dedicate himself to a chapel and produce such an intricately detailed work of art, making a kind of artwork as part of the home could enrich the homeowners and all their visitors. Painting something with the minutiae of Michaelangelo would set for an incredibly daunting task, though. One way of making a less technically difficult, but still attractive, artwork for the home is the use of mosaic tiles.

For many, a number of years have probably passed since the last use of mosaic tiles. People often run into mosaic forms in an art school and forget about its very real possibility as a decoration in an adult setting. Coming in glass and ceramic variations almost beyond imagination, mosaic tiles can simply or elaborately provide a decoration that stands out no matter its location.

Two of the most popular spots for mosaics include the kitchen and the bathroom. A kitchen backsplash of mosaic tiles could help bring an accent or point of focus for an otherwise generic kitchen or dining area. Parallel portraits could lend an interesting addition to a bathroom, too. Still, mosaic bathroom tiles most often appear as a simple, symmetrical pattern surrounding a tub or throughout a shower stall where the tiles allow for easy rolling off of water into drains. Depending largely on how ornate one wants to make the home improvement, a kitchen backsplash kind of design fit may well into a colorful bathroom. It would go beyond the practical use of mosaic bathroom tiles, but that decision regarding style rests entirely with the home improver.

What people may misunderstand is that making detailed pictures with mosaic tiles could end up a surprisingly easy process. For those gifted enough to draw amazingly by freehand, just drawing the figure ahead of placing the mosaic tiles may provide a nearly superfluous step that could add a little efficiency to the process. Others could print out or copy of whatever the intended design and place the mosaic tiles on top of it accordingly. Hence, a professional looking mosaic could come at the discounted price of doing the job by one's self.

Mosaic tiles, in glass or ceramic styles, could brighten up a home at a discounted price. With flowers, landscapes or just simple geometric shapes, designs in mosaic tiles could give homeowners and friends something to appreciate every single day. Few people will ever leave a lasting mark on a structure the way Michaelangelo did, but a mosaic design could at least help to make a domain truly one's own.
